official synopsis: St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

When i first heard about this book i didn't really think anything of it,cause once you have read a vampire book you have read them all. This book just didn't make me jump the queue and the moment when i sat down to read it my hopes where not very high,  especially from the blurb  which  states that they are vampires that go to a school especially for vampire it just sounded way to technically which it definitely seems when you see the names of the other  vampires  like the strigoi or dehampirs.

Once i had finished every single page of the book i was in love with this series and when it came to the characters i loved it even more! for example the quirky witty mouth of rose Hathaway is enough to make you die laughing. Even though the book is only 332 pages it still keeps you on your toes with the exciting sorry line that will make you want to shout with alarm with the distress of the characters and laugh out loud with the quick witted jokes.

the only fault with this book is that in some places its slow and when i say slow i mean it like being stuck in an algebra class with the time just ticking away. However, i am not entirely sure if Mead intend this book to being snailed paced in some sections but it definitely was like when lissa  goes for a feeding, it was like an unwanted 5 minuets just to increase the length of  the book.

finally, apart form some rough spots that cause the book to be slow , it really is action packed and a great book to keep you intrigue with its writing all around  a thumbs up read that will keep you up all night just to finish it. ( definitely not  twilight)
