Obsidian Lux series #1

Obsidian

                                  Written By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
                               Published By: Entangled Teen
                               Format:Paperback
                               Released Date: November 29th 2011
                                 Rate:5/5

   Official synopsis: Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

“So the dickhead had a name. Daemon—seemed fitting.”

The chitter chatter involved with this book was mind-blowing, like literally and from the responses of  other book-crazy reviewers mad me literally jump the train into the Luxen fandom.

Obsidian being the first in the whirlwind series by the amazing Jennifer L. Armentrout, starts with Katy an all-round normal teenage American girl who moves to the 'Boring' small town of west Virginia, where she meets the formidable Daemon Black and his bubbly sister, however, Katy soon realizes that there are dark secrets at work surrounding both Daemon and his sister, especially with random teens disappearing around every corner. Katy's normal life soon turns into an extraterrestrial roller-coaster.

There are many aspect of this book that I found enjoyable and would surly make you drop everything coursework, studying, even a baby. That's right its that good! Throughout the entire book it was difficult with finding a favourite character as they were all  "Awesome"and felt so realistic  now even through I loved Daemon! But who doesn't, right?  I would have to say I would have to say that Katy tops my list as my favourite character as she has a strong personality that doesn't seem to slip throughout the whole book, plus even though Daemon acts a complete tool she handles him with the help of her sassy attitude. Another, entertaining part of  this particular book was the plot  as even after reading the blurb you start to  think that the book has lost all mystery soon get blown from the water as there are many elements that will still make you gasp and squeal like a teenage fangirl, even with the very fast paced action. All together my favourite scenes from this book as it was so hard trying to pick one I went for all of them was the Daemon and Katy interaction scenes as they were well written showing the tense nature of their relationship at first and  how it bloomed into something more, also, these scenes involved so much dry humour that it was continuously funny even when it was meant as an insult towards Katy (mostly.).

Definitely a must read for lovers of YA paranormal romance! That can only be described with two word HOLY. HOTNESS.

Vampire Academy Review

Vampire Academy By Richelle Mead

                                                                                          Published by : Richelle Mead
                                                                                               Published by: Razorbill
                                                                                               Released: August 16th 2007
                                                                                               Rating:5/5
official synopsis: St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

When i first heard about this book i didn't really think anything of it,cause once you have read a vampire book you have read them all. This book just didn't make me jump the queue and the moment when i sat down to read it my hopes where not very high,  especially from the blurb  which  states that they are vampires that go to a school especially for vampire it just sounded way to technically which it definitely seems when you see the names of the other  vampires  like the strigoi or dehampirs.

Once i had finished every single page of the book i was in love with this series and when it came to the characters i loved it even more! for example the quirky witty mouth of rose Hathaway is enough to make you die laughing. Even though the book is only 332 pages it still keeps you on your toes with the exciting sorry line that will make you want to shout with alarm with the distress of the characters and laugh out loud with the quick witted jokes.

the only fault with this book is that in some places its slow and when i say slow i mean it like being stuck in an algebra class with the time just ticking away. However, i am not entirely sure if Mead intend this book to being snailed paced in some sections but it definitely was like when lissa  goes for a feeding, it was like an unwanted 5 minuets just to increase the length of  the book.

finally, apart form some rough spots that cause the book to be slow , it really is action packed and a great book to keep you intrigue with its writing all around  a thumbs up read that will keep you up all night just to finish it. ( definitely not  twilight)

everneath review

Everneath By Brodi Ashton

                              Written By: Brodi Ashton
                Published By:Simon & Schuster UK
                       Format: Paperback
                                             Released Date:January 24th 2012
          Rating : 1/5

Official Synopsis;Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.

Everneath was one of them books i really wanted to love, especially when it was loosely based on the Persephone and Hades myth. i had heard hype about this book everywhere goodreads, Facebook and twitter and just by reading the blurb and looking at the cover  i was prepared to love and join the hype.

After officially finishing this book i can say i was seriously disappointed with this book  for the first part it was slow, with a complicated  story line which this book leaves you to figure out.The biggest issues I have with this book is how believable it really was. I did not believe Nikki's reasons for going to the Everneath. I did not believe she spent a hundred years there (six months of our time). And I certainly didn't believe in the romance that she supposedly couldn't forget during that time. It was all so insipid and unconvincing.Plus, with the character just felt faked, due tot he fact of Nikki  following a guy she just met to the everneath all because of a guy dumping her, then it goes to a whole new level of "come on" when you really have the main character Nikki actually thinking about a romantic fantasy with Cole the creepy stalker of kept her prisoner in the everneath to just drain her dry of her essence.Really Ashton.

continuing the whole mood of this story was morbid, i never thought that they was a more morbid character than Bella swan but it turns out there is.

However, i do need to give credit where it is due the story line for this paranormal YA book was very unique from other supernatural books where the normal girls meets supernatural guy then a high school love story proceeds. however , it was confusing in some points and very slow while first 1% of the book draw me in as it was very interesting the other 99% lacked action.

This book is not for all, but if you love to work out puzzles then this book is for you and if. enjoy this read if you do read it. :)

Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon [Review]

 Dead Beautiful By Yvonne Woon

Written By: Yvonne Woon
Published by: Usborne publishing
Format: Paperback
Released: May 1st 2011
Rating 4.5/5

official synopsis: Renée Winters was still an ordinary girl. She spent her summers at the beach, had the perfect best friend, and had just started dating the cutest guy at school. No one she'd ever known had died. But all that changes when she finds her parents dead in the Redwood Forest, in what appears to be a strange double murder.

After the funeral Renée’s wealthy grandfather sends her to Gottfried Academy, a remote and mysterious boarding school in Maine, where she finds herself studying subjects like Philosophy, Latin, and the “Crude Sciences.”

It’s there that she meets Dante Berlin, a handsome and elusive boy to whom she feels inexplicably drawn. As they grow closer, unexplained things begin to happen, but Renée can’t stop herself from falling in love. It’s only when she discovers a dark tragedy in Gottfried’s past that she begins to wonder if the Academy is everything it seems.

Little does she know, Dante is the one hiding a dangerous secret, one that has him fearing for her life.

This book just screamed brilliance from it shelf  from the first moment i just felt a force pull to it and just knew i had to read it.I have read lots of paranormal books, but this one was different and unique, this was not just because it didn't involve vampire, werewolf or fairies but a completely new atmosphere to the supernatural  world. However, by looking at the mixed reviews on amazon, twitter , goodreads ect i started to get  feelings like a roller coaster ride.

once i finished this book i was blown away by the strong and provoking  story line of DEAD BEAUTIFUL. furthermore, i do believe that the bad reviews on amazon and good reads were not  giving justice to the incredible story line but  they were telling the truth about the giving description of the character like Dante being a god and Renée being just an "average girl . while its an average size book with and "average " main character within every page you fine a way to relate to the emotions of the character and will make scream at the shocking events on every page.

There where a couple of annoying things about this book like the  the characters none of them had any flaws. Take Dante Berlin. He get described as a "god". So how the what is annoying is how can a girl like Renée when she is described as an "average girl"? This situation just made me thing get over yourself Woon,  there was no flaws given to this character, he was perfect inside and outside.  How unrealistic is these characters? You can be sexy and hot and damn right gorgeous, but with no flaws?sorry, but if that happened i would be shocked . Then  you had  the main character Renee saying something like, "And I liked him for all his flaws - it made him that much more real." what flaws ? they had to be invisible  cause nothing was explained really at first with Dante.

Yovnne Woon  did an amazing job with this book.  Even after looking at the flaws it still is a brilliant book to read if you can handle the mystery and the annoyances of not know whats going to happen and if you can over look on how the characters act. If you like late night shivers this is a book for you !
